AFRICA THE BEAUTIFUL
Wednesdays 7am to 8am
(flyer)

L to R :
Lovena Misama, Lulame Azele
Africa aka the birthplace of humankind is the second largest continent on earth, occupying 20% of the Earth's land area. Home to 54 independent countries and an abundance of culture, history and natural resources, there is so much to learn about the marvelous continent.

When most people are asked about Africa, images of starving orphans spring to mind. While this is one reality of the continent, Africa the Beautiful aims to highlight all the positive things about Africa, celebrating all things African!

Hosted by Lovena Misama and Lulame Azele the show looks at all things African, food, customs, languages, folk stories, clothing and most importantly music. Tune in to Africa the Beautiful every Wednesday morning from 7-8am.

Lulame is a 20 year old ECU journalism student with a passion for all things African and wants to share it with every one! Originally from Zimbabwe, Lulame arrived in Australia in 2005. Her favourite recipe of a peanut butter sandwich with tomato and onion is s source of constant debate between Lulame and Lovena.

Lovena is a 25 year old Law Student who dedicates her time to studies and community activities and events such as the United Youth Heritage Council. Lovena spent only the first few months of her life in her home country of Tanzania before migrating to Perth with her family so she enjoys the oppurtunity to learn more about Africa..

Funding from Youth Week 2008 has given a unique opportunity to the producers and presenters of "Africa the Beautiful" to take the celebrations to Cyril Jackson Senior High School on the 10th of April 2008.

LIVE BROADCAST CYRIL JACKSON SENIOR CAMPUS DURING YOUTH WEEK 2008

6EBA Program Coordinator Dani Cinnamon and Project Officer Kosta Kalantzis assisted the group to take the radio program to the Cyril Jackson Senior High School, and what a day it was.

50-70 Cyril Jackson students viewed and participated in the LIVE broadcast at Cyril Jackson Senior Campus for National Youth Week 2008 on the 9th of April.

6EBA targeted high school students from diverse backgrounds predominantly from African descent in order to bring youth together and raise awareness of diverse cultures to the wider community.

Students positively engaged in the broadcast which encouraged participation through the use of a variety of activities including interviews, food tasting, singing and dancing. Students showed an enthusiastic and proactive attitude to becoming involved in the broadcast. They had the opportunity to speak out about some of their biggest concerns whilst at the same time received recognition of their talents and by doing so inspired other young people to develop their talents. Many had the chance to share their experiences of living in Africa and the effects it’s had on their life.

Others had the opportunity to express their views and speak about their biggest concerns whilst receiving recognition for it. It was a good
opportunity to raise awareness of African migrantsand help the wider community (listeners)understand and relate to this community a lot better.
Promotional materials were handed out to students on the day in recognition for being a part of the event and contributing to National Youth Week 2008.

Overall, the LIVE broadcast was successful in many ways. A big-thank-you to all those involved!
