I am not a strong follower of God, but I do believe that everything in life happens for a reason, and opportunities come when you are most ready to take on them. I guess it was my strong passion for my Chinese cultural heritage and identity that led me to seize the opportunity to step into the multicultural media industry in Western Australia.
I was introduced to 6EBA radio station last year, by a member of the Mandarin broadcasting group, and thereafter began my journey as a Mandarin Radio Broadcaster. The Mandarin Radio Program is sponsored by the WA Chung Wah Association Inc., which provides services to meet the needs of the local Chinese community and people. This opportunity means a lot to me, more than I am able to express in words. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful opportunity, allowing me to immerse myself back into an environment that I was once familiar with; the language, the people and the culture. It is one that places me within the Chinese community, and one which I hope that non-Chinese will come to accept as part of a vibrant and multicultural Australia.
A few months after beginning my journey with the Mandarin broadcasting group, I was given an opportunity to improve my broadcasting skills and become a well-trained console operator. It was also during this time that I met with the chairperson of the Multicultural Radio and Television Association (MRTA), Nikola Nikolich. Nikola is one of the people I most respect in Western Australia, and his passion towards building an inclusive and diverse community through active youth engagement is to be particularly admired. This belief that the youth of Western Australia are integral to our future is also in line with my personal vision.
